What we collect
We collect only the information needed to operate and improve CaptainCal.
- Account details such as your name, email address and sign-in identifiers.
- Plan details such as age, sex, height, weight, goal, activity, pace, time zone and language.
- Meal data, including text, photos, barcodes, nutrition labels, estimates and edits you choose to save.
- Optional health data you choose to connect: steps, active calories and workouts from Apple Health or Health Connect.
- Limited technical data such as device type, app version, push token, crash diagnostics and product-use events.
- Subscription and purchase status supplied by the app stores and RevenueCat. We do not receive your card number.
How we use information
- Create your daily plan and calculate calorie and macro targets.
- Analyze meal photos, labels and text, and return an editable meal draft.
- Save your diary, show progress and notify you when a meal-photo analysis finishes.
- Show activity beside your food diary and suggest an activity level that better fits your calorie plan. Burned calories are never added to your food target.
- Verify access and administer subscriptions and the free look for new accounts.
- Diagnose crashes, understand feature use and improve analysis quality.
- Protect the service, prevent abuse and respond to valid legal requests.
Health and activity data
Connecting Apple Health or Health Connect is optional and read-only. CaptainCal requests only steps, active calories and workouts, and never writes health data.
We store synced data with your account to show activity history and suggest an appropriate activity level. Raw health measurements and workout details are not sent to Mixpanel or Sentry and are not used for advertising.
AI processing and accuracy
We send the meal image or text you choose to analyze to an AI service provider to process your request. The provider may change over time, but we use it as a service provider under arrangements that restrict use of your data for its own purposes.
Meal-photo results are estimates, not precise measurements or medical advice. Nutrition-label data or an exact barcode record takes priority when available.
Service providers
We share only the data needed with providers that help us run CaptainCal.
- Cloud hosting and storage providers for requests and meal photos.
- AI providers for image and text analysis.
- Apple and Google for sign-in and in-store purchases.
- RevenueCat for subscription and entitlement status.
- Mixpanel for product analytics and Sentry for crash diagnostics.
- Open Food Facts when looking up a product barcode.
Retention and deletion
We keep information while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Retention can vary by record type and operational or legal need.
You can delete your account in the app’s Settings. This removes your account, diary, plan data and account-linked photos from our active systems, subject to limited legal-retention or reasonably de-identified exceptions. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it in the store as well.
Your choices
- Review or update plan information in Settings.
- Edit or delete a logged meal.
- Disable camera or notification permission in device settings.
- Review health permissions or stop syncing in CaptainCal, Apple Health or Health Connect. Previously synced history remains until you delete your account.
- Manage or cancel your subscription through the app store.
- Delete your account in the app, or contact us for help with a data request.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Some providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country of residence.
Children
CaptainCal is not intended for anyone under 18. If we learn that we collected a child’s information, we will delete it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the new version here and revise the last-updated date.
