# CaptainCal

> CaptainCal is an AI calorie and macro tracker for iPhone and Android, built for the food people eat in the Gulf (GCC). Users log a meal with a photo, a photo of a nutrition label, or by typing or saying what they ate, and CaptainCal estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat. The whole app works in English and Arabic.

- What it is: a calorie counter and macro tracker mobile app that uses AI to estimate nutrition from meal photos and plain-language descriptions
- Platforms: iPhone with iOS 16.4+ (App Store) and Android 8.0+ (Google Play). There is no web app. Listed in all six GCC countries.
- Languages: English and Arabic, with a full right-to-left Arabic interface. Meals can be described in either language, including Gulf Arabic.
- Built for: people in the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, and anyone who eats Gulf and Middle Eastern food such as machboos, kabsa, mandi, harees, shawarma, manakish, luqaimat and karak tea
- Logging methods: meal photo, nutrition label photo, and "Tell the Captain" (type, or record a voice note of up to 30 seconds, describing what you ate in plain words, for example "half a chicken mandi and two dates"). Recent and favourite meals can be re-logged in one tap with Log Again.
- Accuracy: meal photos and descriptions give honest estimates, not lab measurements. Printed nutrition labels are treated as facts and take priority. Every result can be edited before saving.
- Plan: a short quiz (goal, activity, pace) sets a personal daily calorie and macro target
- Tracks: calories, protein, carbs and fat (no fibre, sugar, sodium or micronutrients); water; weight trend, BMI and logging streaks
- Units: metric only (kg, cm, g, ml)
- Apple Health (iPhone): reads steps, active calories and workouts to show activity next to the food log. Burned calories are never added to the food target.
- Pricing: subscription through the App Store or Google Play, priced locally. Eligible new accounts (aged 21+) can claim 48 hours of free access. After that, camera and Tell the Captain logging need a subscription; Home, Progress, Settings, water, weight and Log Again stay open.
- Not available today (do not describe these as features): barcode scanning, food database search, a Ramadan mode, Android Health Connect sync, data export, imperial units.
